7 Truck Stops That’ll Keep You Going!

Service Pro Truck Lines is committed to safety, to our family of drivers and to our customers and we take that commitment seriously. Last month we talked about ELD’s and their role in helping to improve driver safety and we also talked a little bit about food! Why? Because in life, we’re pretty certain there is one thing we can all agree on: the last thing anyone wants after a long day of work is mediocre food. Great food is part of what helps fuel the body so today, we offer part two of a two-part series on eating well. We investigated 7 truck stops that just might help keep you going as you travel the open road. Fear not – stop anywhere on this list and you’ll find not only great food, but great service and accommodations. If you’re ever near these truck stops, pause for a well-deserved rest and thank us later for the recommendation!

Jubitz Travel Centre in Portland, Oregon boasts amenities like a country bar with live music, movie theatre, and fine dining in addition to it’s full service truck maintenance and high-speed fueling systems. Located near Portland International Airport, stop here if you’re looking for both  you AND your truck to experience luxury rarely found on the highways. South of the Border, located in Harner, South Carolina, calls itself America’s favourite highway oasis. It has a golf course, reptile lagoon, and a 200-foot-tall sightseeing tower. Signs for the stop begin hundreds of miles before you see it, building the “excitement.” It’s no wonder it has evolved from a truck stop to what’s now a very popular southern tourist attraction since its inception in 1949.

The Iowa 80 is the world’s largest truck stop and is truly a sight to behold. There’s a gigantic super truck showroom, a trucking museum, 8 restaurants, has an onsite Barber, Chiropractor and Dentist – actually, it might be easier to name what it doesn’t have. Established in 1964 it even has an annual “Super Trucks Beauty Contest” and a pet washing station if your furry friend is travelling with you. Some have even called it “Trucker’s Disneyland”. It’s estimated they serve over 5000 customers a day.

Gilli’s Truck Stop & Restaurant is located in Temiskaming Shores, Ontario. It became well known for its amazing food – attracting people from all over, whether a truck driver or not. Gilli’s also offers bilingual service and a motel if you need a break from sleeping in your vehicle after a long day on the road.

Boise, Idaho is the home of Boise Stage Shop. It is over 100 years old (established in 1891) and maintains a great reputation by sticking to the basics while still evolving with the times. Their showers are washed after every use, the TV and Internet are free, and there is an arcade and 24-hour convenience store. There’s even a theatre room with huge, comfortable chairs and if you don’t have time to stop, you can customize your order, place it online and have it ready for pick up as you travel through!

Whiskey Pete’s in Primm, Nevada is a 36,400 square-foot casino and resort. It also happens to be one of the last places to stop and refuel yourself and your truck before you drive back out into the California desert. In addition to the spectacle, you can expect all the amenities of a modern truck stop. After all, what is a truck stop without free wifi?

Clearwater Travel Plaza is located in Minnesota and brands itself as ‘Not just a truck stop… but a destination’ and it’s got the bragging rights to back it up: The Food Network rated it as one of the top 5 truck stops in America because of an amazing creamy chicken and rice soup from its Nelson Brothers restaurant. If that alone doesn’t have you curious, Clearwater also has 24/7 laundry and custom breakfasts to start your day off right.

Did we miss your favourite truck stop? Are any of these stops not what they used to be? Service Pro Truck Lines is committed to our drivers and our loyal readers. If things have changed since we compiled this list let us know. In the meantime, thanks for reading, and safe travels.
